It's not like Battlefield with Quake movement code it's relatively "realistic", with players in first- and third-person view squaring off as teams of distinctive classes and vehicles. While it's set in the Quake universe, on Earth during the Strogg invasion prior to the events of Quake 2 or Quake 4, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars it doesn't borrow any technology or art from either game. Hunting with Stroggs? BAN THIS SICK FILTH NOW. In fact, it has more in common with the developer's Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer game, also called Enemy Territory. "Kevin and I also work together for about three of four hours a day on the telephone or via ICQ," says Wedgwood with enthusiasm.Īnd yet, rather like the preconception about id's working habits (not entirely helped by John Carmack's current predilections for mobile games and building rockets), the suggestion that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is some sort of Stroggification of Battlefield is equally quick to run aground. Indeed, while we're chatting, Duffy's apparently on the other side of the office doing Wedgwood's job, although he's being kept away from us. Co-owner Kevin Cloud is creative director on the project, while Robert Duffy is technical director. There's this perception that id just farms out its games these days, but the relationship is close. And they really are working with id Software. Before our presentation begins, game designer and managing director Paul Wedgwood points at his company's logo on the trailer's final screen. Sitting in Splash Damage's boardroom in Bromley, our eyes are drawn to three clocks on the wall, one showing local time, another "Activision" and another "id Software". This is certainly a developer thrilled to be working with id Software. It's people rocket-jumping into choppers and weirdo aliens going "hoooo-maaan!" as they pilot Chinooks into your base and capture a flag and then bunny-hop off into the sunset, unmolested by players who've driven their buggies into a ditch in the middle of nowhere and can't find their way back to where the action is. It's Battlefield in the Quake universe! It's getting railgunned in the face by twitch-killers as you stand next to a spawnpoint for a vehicle. When you watch the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars trailer, it's easy to leap to conclusions about what the game's going to be. You are required to link your iPhone and iPad to the computer now. A little more than three weeks later, near the island of Tonga, the crew, led by first mate Fletcher Christian, staged a mutiny against Captain William Bligh, under whom they claimed to suffer inhuman treatment.īligh and eighteen loyal sailors were set adrift in a 23-foot open boat. On April 4, 1789, the Bounty embarked on the second leg of its journey with a cargo of a thousand breadfruit saplings aboard. For Christian, Maimiti had the face that launched one mutinous ship. After sailing 27,000 miles over ten months, the crew spent a sybaritic idyll on Tahiti, where they reveled in the subtropical climate, lush surroundings, and overwhelming warmth and hospitality of the Tahitians.Ī scientist of the time, gladly abandoning reason for passion, claimed that the Tahitians knew "no other god but love every day is consecrated to it, the whole island is its temple, all the women are its idols, all the men its worshippers." Many of the men found Tahitian companions, and Fletcher Christian and a Tahitian named Maimiti fell deeply in love and later married. It was sent to collect a cargo of breadfruit saplings, which was then to be transported to Jamaica where the breadfruit would serve as food for slaves working on the plantations. It is as if history had been preserved in a petri dish (another admittedly romantic notion about an already widely romanticized past). The islanders speak a dialect that is a hybrid of Tahitian and eighteenth-century English. Living on a 1.75 square mile volcanic speck in the South Pacific that is surely one of the most isolated places on Earth, the contemporary Pitcairn Islanders still bear the surnames of the eighteenth century mutineers (Tom Christian, for example, is the great-great-great-grandson of Fletcher). What has also helped to perpetuate the romantic fascination with the mutiny is the existence of a small community on Pitcairn Island directly descended from the mutineers and their Tahitian wives. Set in the paradisiacal islands of the South Seas, the mutiny involved a host of colorful characters, including the tyrannical Captain Bligh, the aristocratic Fletcher Christian (a distant relation of William Wordsworth's), numerous uninhibited Tahitian women, and a pack of sailors made up of cockney orphans and ruffian adverturers. The mutiny has generated five films (who can think of Fletcher Christian without picturing Marlon Brando?) as well as countless books (including a historical novel by Mark Twain, The Great Revolution in Pitcairn). It is not surprising that the most famous of all mutinies, that of the British HMS Bounty, has become ideal fodder for popular history and legend. Courtesy of the Pitcairn Island Web site. For example, CorelCAD has a command window and you can start commands by typing, just like AutoCAD. Other aspects of CorelCAD are strikingly similar to AutoCAD. You can use the drawing file tabs to easily switch between drawings or start a new drawing, and use tabs in the lower-left corner of the window to switch between model space and multiple sheets, which is similar to paper space layouts in AutoCAD. Audio PerformanceĪs the name suggests, both stereo and 7.1 virtual surround are available here. It's the new king of the HS series in this regard, as intended, but it's also arguably preferable to the Void line in terms of comfort, which ironically provides a bit of a headache for anyone trying to choose between the two. None of those minor gripes can take away from the HS60 Pro Surround's overall excellence in comfort and build quality, though. People might not do three-way calls a la Regina George anymore, but Discord offers the same potential for faux pas. Or worse, the Mean Girls-esque social awkwardness of saying something while you thought you were muted. There's marginally more travel between its muted and active states, but that's not enough to substitute a clear audio prompt or a lighting cue like the Void uses to avoid broadcasting call-outs to nobody in online games. While nobody will have any problem using the former, it's hard to keep track of whether you're muted sometimes. Just like the other HS-series cans, you can find a volume scroll wheel and a simple mic mute button at the rear left side. RGB enthusiasts should turn to Corsair's Void range or the excellent Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE model for an implementation of the lighting we’ve never seen before. There's also "CORSAIR" imprinted onto the pleather headband outer. In the middle of the grilles in metallic silver are logos scored with fine lines to lessen their reflectiveness. The matte finish is, thankfully, resistant to smudges, so overall it’s easy to keep these HS60 Pro Surround looking sharp. While the gloss part shows fingerprints easily, it’s a very small area and you’re unlikely to touch that area. There’s a smart and subtle banding of high-gloss plastic between the cushions and the matte finish outer, which feels incredible to touch, almost rubberized. I'm not in love with that look and would prefer another material here to maintain the clean lines of the headset. These are still very much closed-backed though, and as far as we can see the grille’s purely aesthetic and doesn’t aid ventilation. On the outer, hard-surfaced section of the earcup, Corsair’s odd grille design returns, giving the impression of an open-backed headset. I even heard a worrying snap on one occasion when I picked up the cans and prepared to don them, but closer inspection revealed no obvious damage. But it’s easy to imagine it being a little too snug for others. On this reviewer’s smaller head, the horizontal clamping feels resolute but just shy of constrictive. This might be an area of concern if your head’s on the larger size. Weighing in at 0.7 pounds (317g), they’re middleweight cans that distribute their weight pretty evenly, thanks to a stern clamping force provided by the aluminum headband. It’s thick enough that your ear never makes contact with the flat, hard surface of the driver itself, which is something we’ve had minor issues with in the past with the cheaper HS-series models. The memory foam encased within the protein leather outer layer does feel softer and more voluminous than in the HS60. There’s more yellow stitching, again immaculate, around the earcups. The bright yellow adds a touch of aesthetic interest without stepping over into Toy Town. The headset comes in "carbon," which is black with white accents in the headband, or yellow, like our review unit. The stitched grid design along the inner headband is finished to a really high level. The build quality and material choices in this headset are absolutely exemplary. Unidirectional noise-cancelling electret condenser It supported importing data too so that was great. Okay, so first impressions, Brave looked and worked exactly like Chrome and Chromium which was a huge plus point. Okay, before you come up with your pitchforks, I just wanna say that I hated Brave initially (in the first week of using it) but I came around it and now love it! Which means I won't be able to sync data between my phone and other PCs, another deal breaker.Īnd that's when I decided to use Brave, and at first I absolutely hated switching to it. So, After several months of switching between Chromium and Firefox, I decided to move back to Chromium BUT WAIT! Chromium announced they'll no longer be supporting Google Sync. I still have kept Firefox, I use it for certain things, it's a nice desktop browser. The only great thing about it was the Sync, Firefox handles Sync amazingly well. The fact that it didn't have an option to search the history was even more annoying. This was a deal breaker, If I had to keep Chromium with firefox to browse important websites, what was the point in using Firefox at all? Not to mention the horrible Android app, it's just, bad. Many websites simply refused to work, for frontend development it doesn't have a lot of features (doesn't support several webkit functions) and sites like Mega NZ refused to download big files since the browser doesn't support certain APIs. I didn't know any better so around 2018-19 I switched to Chromium instead, at least it was FOSS but later I realized Chromium also had a lot of proprietary Google code, which made me look for alternatives so I switched to Firefox, after a long time.įirefox, while great, had plethora of issues. Most people already know this, it's always in the back of their mind but they never take any action. There's nothing redeeming about it other than performance, it seems to be a resource hog which might explain (or not) why it's the #1 in browser benchmarks everywhere.Ĭhrome has always had privacy issues, it's one of the least private browsers out there and this bothered me. I was a Chrome user first (go ahead, report me) and to be fair, Chrome is a nice stable browser but that's as far as it goes. I've been using this browser exclusively and during this time, I never bothered installing Chrome or Chromium which were my primary browsers before Chromium decided to kill sync functionality and Chrome just totally nuked my privacy.
